How the major stock indexes fared Friday

Poor corporate earnings reports pounded the stock market Friday in a sour end to an otherwise strong week of trading. The Dow Jones industrial average fell more than 200 points for its worst day in four months. Disappointing results from three giants of the Dow ? Microsoft, General Electric and McDonald's ? were to blame. The broader market also fell.

The Dow Jones industrial average fell 205.43 points, or 1.5 percent, to close at 13,343.51.

The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 24.15, or 1.7 percent, to 1,433.19.

The Nasdaq composite index fell 67.25 points, or 2.2 percent, to 3,005.62.

For the week:

The Dow is up 14.66 points, or 0.1 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 4.60 points, or 0.3 percent.

The Nasdaq is down 38.49 points, or 1.3 percent.

For the year:

The Dow is up 1,125.95 points, or 9.2 percent.

The S&P 500 is up 175.59 points, or 14 percent.

The Nasdaq is up 400.47 points, or 15.4 percent.
